An Easy Way To Keep The Doctor Away! — Try Tribe’s Citrusy CBD Chia Water Recipe

Chia seeds aren’t just for pottery pets anymore. If you’re interested in the latest health trends (like CBD!), you’ve probably heard big news about these tiny seeds. Study after study suggests adding a spoonful of chia seeds to your diet is a fantastic way to supercharge your health.

One of the simplest ways to add chia seeds to your life is to mix them in a cool glass of water. While you’re at it, why not add a touch of another hot superfood: CBD! Tribe’s citrus-flavored CBD oil has just the right amount of tart to make this drink extra delectable.

An Easy Way To Keep The Doctor Away!

The old phrase that “big things come in small packages” certainly applies to chia seeds. Did you know these seeds have the highest plant-based concentration of omega-3 fatty acids? Not only that, chia seeds are one of the best sources of dietary fiber. So, if you’re looking for an easy way to keep your gut clean, be sure to up your fiber intake with chia seeds.

Just be sure never to swallow dry chia seeds. As you’ll notice when you make this recipe, chia seeds are fantastic at absorbing water. If you eat these seeds on their own, they will pull saliva from your throat, which is obviously not safe. Indeed, there was recently a case where a patient nearly choked after swallowing dry chia seeds. Please always mix your chia seeds with a liquid!

CBD Chia Seed Water Recipe

CBD Chia Seed Water Recipe

Ingredients
  • ~ 8 oz purified water
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • 1 – 2 teaspoons chia seeds
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Lemon slice
  • Mint sprig, optional
Directions
  • Pour about eight ounces of cold water into a highball glass or a reusable bottle
  • Pour in chia seeds, lemon juice, and Tribe CBD oil
  • Stir and let sit for a few minutes before drinking
  • Add a lemon slice and mint sprig as garnish, if desired

We’ll admit, drinking chia water for the first time could feel pretty weird. While chia seeds have no taste, they will change the texture of your water. Some people just can’t get used to the “slimy” feeling that chia seeds add to their beverages.

If you don’t enjoy chia water, no worries! There are plenty of alternative ways you could incorporate these seeds into your diet.

Indeed, many people online are now raving about mixing DIY “chia puddings.” That’s right; you can make a creamy pudding in a mason jar with a few tablespoons of chia seeds, coconut milk, and a sweetener like maple syrup or honey. Consider adding cocoa powder, vanilla extract, or a touch of matcha green tea powder for extra flavor. Be sure to let this pudding sit overnight in the fridge and enjoy in the morning.

Another way people sneak chia seeds into their diet is by using them as egg substitutes. To make this “chia egg,” mix one tablespoon of chia seeds with about 2.5 tablespoons of water. Just keep in mind: this trick only works in baked goods like cookies or banana bread. If you’re looking for an egg substitute for cocktails, we’d recommend researching aquafaba on this previous Tribe CBD post

Stay Active with Tribe CBD Energy Shots

While chia seeds are super healthy, remember that diet is only half of the battle. It’s equally important to get regular exercise if you want to experience peak physical and mental well-being. If you’re struggling to find the motivation to get to the gym, we’d recommend adding a few of Tribe CBD’s Energy Shots to your toolkit. On top of our hemp-derived CBD, each of these shots has enough all-natural caffeine, guarana, and ginseng to get your heart pumping.

Go Bananas for Tribe’s CBD Monkey Gland Cocktail

When the Monkey Gland debuted in the 1920s, thirsty Parisians “went ape” for this drink. Today, however, this classic cocktail seems to have fallen into obscurity. Luckily for cocktail enthusiasts, even an orangutan could make this simple drink at home! If you consider yourself a cocktail connoisseur, you’ve got to give this old drink a go.

Since the Monkey Gland calls for fresh orange juice, it’s also a perfect fit for Tribe’s citrus-flavored CBD oil. Our high-quality CBD oil has subtle traces of orange extract, which should enhance this pungent Prohibition-era punch.

Go Bananas for Tribe’s CBD

So, what’s the deal with the name “Monkey Gland?” Well, if you’re extra squeamish, you may want to skip straight to the cocktail recipe. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

In the early 20th century, there was a “doctor” who believed in placing monkey glands onto human testicles to bump up testosterone levels. While this theory was obviously “bollocks,” it was pretty fashionable for a few years. Don’t believe us? Google the name “Serge Voronoff.”

Anyhoo, bartenders named their drink after these experiments to highlight the Monkey Gland’s “energizing” effects.

As a side note: there’s now a famous dipping sauce in South Africa that uses the name “Monkey Gland.” And, no, there are no monkey glands in the ingredients list!

CBD Monkey Gland Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 barspoon grenadine
  • Splash of absinthe
  • 1 dropperful of Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Orange wheel or peel for garnish
Directions
  • Pour absinthe into a pre-chilled martini glass
  • Coat the entire glass with absinthe and toss excess liqueur down the sink
  • Pour gin, orange juice, grenadine, and Tribe CBD oil into a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into the martini glass
  • Garnish with an orange wheel or peel

Understandably, many people freak out when they see absinthe listed on a cocktail recipe. First created in the 18th century, this anise-flavored liqueur gained a nasty reputation for inducing hallucinations and violent side effects. However, we now know that French wine producers were primarily to blame for this pseudoscientific smear campaign.

While absinthe has small traces of a psychoactive chemical, it’s nowhere near LSD levels. Indeed, the main danger associated with absinthe—as with any other spirit—is its high alcohol content. As long as you use this liqueur in moderation, you shouldn’t have an Edgar Allan Poe-style panic attack.

The Lazarus Libation — Tribe’s CBD Corpse Reviver No. 2

Of the many “hangover cure cocktails” in bartenders’ books, the Corpse Reviver No. 2 is the most famous. First invented in the 1930s, this drink was supposedly designed to get you un-drunk after a night of frivolity. While there’s no scientific evidence that a Corpse Reviver No. 2 has any medicinal effects, it’s worth a shot…right?

To help enhance this cocktail’s “curative effects,” we’re going to add a dash of our citrus-flavored CBD oil. You’ll be amazed how only a touch of high-quality CBD could “revive” you!

The Lazarus Libation

Whether we’re talking about movies or drinks, it’s rare that a sequel does better than the original. However, in the case of the Corpse Reviver, “No. 2” is actually “No. 1.” That’s not to say Corpse Reviver No. 1 is a bad drink—it’s just less popular.

For those who are curious, the Corpse Reviver No. 1 has a fruitier flavor thanks to the inclusion of ½ oz applejack. The other ingredients in this cocktail include 1 ½ oz of cognac, 1 oz of sweet vermouth, and a few dashes of Angostura bitters.

If our CBD Corpse Reviver No. 2 doesn’t “raise you up,” then you might want to give the original recipe a go. Be sure to let us know what rendition you prefer on social media.

The Lazarus Libation — Tribe’s CBD Corpse Reviver No. 2

CBD Corpse Reviver No. 2 Recipe

Ingredients
  • ¾ oz gin
  • ¾ oz Cointreau
  • ¾ oz Cocchi Americano
  • ¾ oz lemon juice
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Dash of absinthe
  • Lemon peel, garnish
Directions
  • Coat your cocktail glass with a dash of absinthe. Pour the excess out
  • Pour gin, Cointreau, Cocchi Americano, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into your serving glass
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil and a lemon peel

As much as we’d like this cocktail to be a “hangover cure,” let’s get real—it’s only going to mask your symptoms. If you’re serious about dampening that pounding headache, then you should reach for a glass of purified water. You may not get instant effects, but it’s essential to get rehydrated after a “night on the town.”

For an extra hydration boost, you may want to stock a few electrolyte-enriched packets at home. Just be sure these hydration boosters don’t have loads of unnecessary additives.

British, Boozy, and Bergamot — Tribe’s Brilliant Spiked CBD Earl Grey

Want a cheap way to feel like British nobility? Buy a box of Earl Grey tea! But why stop there? Sure, Earl Grey seems to have stress-relieving effects…but it could use a little help from a spot of gin (and CBD oil, of course!).

In this post, we’re going to mix two of the UK’s favorite drinks with a generous splash of our citrus-flavored CBD oil. Be sure to give this recipe a try the next time you feel like bingeing on your fave British shows.

British, Boozy, and Bergamot

Nobody’s quite sure who first invented Earl Grey tea, but most stories suggest Chinese diplomats offered it as a gift to PM Charles Grey in the 19th century. One thing we’re sure of, however, is this tea’s star ingredient: bergamot.

Although bergamots are in the orange family, you’ve probably never seen them on your supermarket’s shelves. That’s because this fruit is way too bitter to eat on its own. We don’t care how much you enjoy munching on grapefruits—you’re going to struggle to swallow a slice of fresh bergamot.

Thankfully, we can enjoy the zest of this fruit in perfumes, creams, and, of course, Earl Grey tea…and that’s great news for all of you health nuts out there! Believe it or not, new studies suggest bergamot has compounds that may decrease stress, fight cancer, and improve digestion.

British, Boozy, and Bergamot — Tribe’s Brilliant Spiked CBD Earl Grey

Spiked CBD Earl Grey Cocktail

Ingredients
  • 1 oz gin
  • ~ 1 cup boiling water with Earl Grey tea bag
  • Two drops vanilla extract
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • ½ cup of warm milk
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • Whipped cream and dark chocolate, optional
Directions
  • Boil a tea kettle full of water
  • Steep an Earl Grey tea bag in about one cup of hot water
  • Meanwhile, heat about ½ cup of whole milk either on the stovetop or in the microwave
  • Add warm milk, gin, vanilla extract, Tribe CBD oil, and simple syrup to your tea
  • Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired

If you’ve never tried homemade whipped cream before, then you don’t know what you’re missing. It doesn’t matter what canned brand you’ve been using; nothing beats the richness of DIY whipped cream.

Thankfully, it’s not all that difficult to make this creamy concoction at home. In fact, if you’ve got a food processor, you have no excuses for not making fresh whipped cream!

First, pour one cup of heavy cream, one tablespoon of sugar, and two drops of vanilla extract into your food processor. Blitz for about 10 – 15 seconds and check your whipped cream’s consistency. If you’d like it to be a little fluffier, give it a few extra seconds before adding it to your drink. Yes, it’s that simple!

Typically, this whipped cream will last about three days when stored correctly in the fridge.

Enjoy Sweet Dreams with Tribe’s CBD Sleep Shots

Since bergamot may have stress-relieving properties, some people claim it could promote a healthy circadian rhythm. However, Earl Grey has caffeine—hence, it’s not the best choice right before bed. Instead, we’d recommend giving Tribe’s CBD Sleep Shots a try. On top of our hemp-derived CBD, each of these shots has a generous helping of relaxing ingredients like Valerian root, Baikal skullcap flower, and melatonin.

Stop “Flipping Out” & Sip Our CBD Flip, Instead!

Most people nowadays have heard about eggnog, but what the heck is “a flip?” Well, “the flip” is a historic cocktail category that gave birth to the modern eggnog. So, if you’re a fan of silky smooth egg-infused cocktails, you’ve got to check out our rendition of this staple drink.

As with the other cocktails on Tribe CBD’s blog, we feel a dropperful of our citrus-flavored CBD oil adds a nice touch to this drink. Not only will CBD keep you cool, the orange extract in our formula will add a lovely hint of sweetness.

Stop “Flipping Out” & Sip Our CBD Flip

Nobody knows when people started “flipping flips,” but it was most likely invented in colonial America. Initially, it appears colonists only used ale, rum, and cane sugar in this cocktail, but eventually they ditched the beer for rum and added an egg.

Some historians claim the name “flip” refers to how people mixed this drink (i.e., they flipped it!). However, “flip” may also refer to the drink’s frothy appearance after people heated it with a steamy poker. Interestingly, although most flips nowadays are cold, it’s likely colonists originally served these drinks hot.

To this day, there’s a bit of debate over whether heavy cream should be considered an authentic flip ingredient. Officially, you should only put cream in eggnog…but you could do whatever the flip you want!

FYI: If you want to learn more about making a killer Christmas eggnog, you’ve got to check out this previous Tribe CBD post

Stop “Flipping Out” & Sip Our CBD Flip, Instead!

CBD Rum Flip Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 oz rum
  • ½ oz water
  • 2 teaspoons fine sugar
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • 1 whole egg
  • Ground nutmeg, garnish
Directions
  • Pour rum, water, sugar, and one whole egg into a cocktail shaker
  • Shake without ice for about ten seconds
  • Add one medium-sized ice cube and shake until you can’t hear the ice anymore
  • Strain into a pre-chilled coupe glass
  • Garnish with ground nutmeg and Tribe CBD oil

Since the flip is such an old cocktail, there are countless recipe variations online. For starters, you could serve this drink hot or cold. You could also try any spirit that suits your fancy. While rum and brandy are iconic choices, some recipes use gin, whiskey, and even wine.

One ingredient you shouldn’t sub is a whole egg. However, we understand many people are concerned about the potential risk of salmonella poisoning. So, if you want to achieve that frothy texture without using a raw egg, the best alternative is to use the water in a can of chickpeas. We kid you not; this water (aka aquafaba) is a fantastic egg substitute.

A Soothing South Beach Smoothie — Tribe’s CBD Miami Vice Cocktail

South Beach is synonymous with spring break shenanigans. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, you may not be able to reach Miami’s sandy shores this season. Thankfully, there’s still an easy way you could enjoy a “South Beach staycation:” blend a glass of the ridiculously delicious Miami Vice cocktail!

This staple 1980s drink combines all the fruity flavors you’d associate with Miami Beach…plus plenty of alcohol, of course! For extra fun, we’re going to add a spritz of our citrus-flavored CBD oil. Just a touch of CBD is sure to put you in that relaxed “Florida vacation mode.”

A Soothing South Beach Smoothie

Honestly, there’s nothing “original” about the Miami Vice cocktail. Indeed, if you’re a cocktail enthusiast, you may already know this drink is simply a mix of two other famous recipes. On the bottom, you have a strawberry daiquiri; on the top, you have a piña colada. So, if you’re already a fan of one of these cocktails (and who wouldn’t be?), you’ll enjoy this drink.

FYI: Tribe CBD recently published recipes for a CBD daiquiri and a CBD piña colada. We’d recommend reading the tips in these previous blog posts to make your Miami Vice extra spectacular.

A Soothing South Beach Smoothie — Tribe’s CBD Miami Vice Cocktail

CBD Miami Vice Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz dark rum
  • ½ cup fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • 2 oz cream of coconut
  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Pineapple wedge, optional
Directions
  • Add white rum, strawberries, simple syrup, lime juice, and one cup of ice to a blender
  • Blitz until the mix is smooth
  • Pour this strawberry mixture into a pre-chilled hurricane glass
  • Clean and dry your blender
  • Add dark rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, and another cup of ice to the blender
  • Blitz this coconut-pineapple mix until smooth
  • Pour on top of the strawberry daiquiri.
  • Top with Tribe CBD oil
  • Garnish with fresh strawberries or a pineapple wedge, if desired

Don’t have a blender on-hand? No problem! You could easily make a Miami Vice without blending your ingredients.

All you have to do is muddle fresh strawberries in the bottom of your hurricane glass and mix all the other ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Be sure to add plenty of ice and shake for at least eight seconds. Once everything is well-chilled, strain your mix into the hurricane glass. You could then add some crushed ice on the top to give this drink a “snowcone-like” effect.

“Cannabidiol Kreme” — Try Tribe’s CBD Donut Cocktail

We don’t care how health-conscious you are; sometimes you just gotta enjoy a fresh-baked glazed donut. Better yet, how about sipping on a donut-flavored cocktail? Yes, there is such a thing as a donut cocktail…and it’s just as incredible as you’d imagine. We bet even Krispy Kreme will be jealous of this sugary-sweet concoction.

To make this drink a little healthy, we’re going to add a “sprinkle” of Tribe’s CBD oil. If the pastry-flavored vodka doesn’t calm you down, our high-quality CBD will certainly put you in a good mood.

“Cannabidiol Kreme”

Although Maine boasts delicious lobster rolls and gorgeous natural scenery, it isn’t exactly the most “exciting” US state. However, if it hadn’t been for one industrious Mainer, we may never have had glazed donuts. So, if you’re a donut lover, you must give props to the Pine Tree State.

According to most reports, a 19th century lad named Hanson Gregory would often make fried dough while at sea. However, he soon noticed that many of his friends were getting sick after eating these treats because the center wasn’t cooked through. Ingeniously, Gregory created a hole in these dough cakes, and, voilà, the doughnut was born.

FYI: If you’re extra sentimental about your sweets, you can pay your respects at Gregory’s grave in Rockport, Maine. And, no, locals didn’t make his tombstone in the shape of a donut—at least we don’t think so.

“Cannabidiol Kreme” — Try Tribe’s CBD Donut Cocktail

CBD Donut Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 ½ oz cake-flavored vodka
  • 1 oz crème de cacao
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • One drop of vanilla extract
  • 1 oz heavy cream
  • 1 dropperful of Tribe CBD oil (natural)
  • One fresh raspberry in a toothpick, optional
Directions
  • Pour vodka, crème de cacao, simple syrup, heavy cream, and vanilla extract in a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into a pre-chilled martini glass
  • Drizzle Tribe CBD oil on top
  • Garnish with a fresh raspberry, if desired

Although “crème de cacao” sounds fancy-dancy, it’s not all that difficult to make. In fact, there are plenty of DIY recipes now swirling around the Internet. So, if you’re extra ambitious, here’s a simple way to make this decadent liqueur at home:

  • Get a bag of raw cacao nibs, vodka, demerara sugar, water, and vanilla extract
  • Put ⅔ cup of cacao nibs and ~1 ½ cups of vodka in a mason jar and shake
  • Let this mixture sit in the sealed jar for one week
  • On the seventh day, create a DIY simple syrup by boiling one cup of water with 1 ½ cups of sugar
  • Once all of the sugar is dissolved, take this mix off the heat and let it rest
  • When the simple syrup is cool enough, add it to your mason jar and let it sit for another day
  • Pour your mixture through a coffee filter or a fine-mesh strainer into a storage glass and put it in the fridge
  • Use your DIY crème de cacao within about two months

Pungent, Poetic, And A Pinch of CBD — Tribe’s CBD Bobby Burns

Truth be told, nobody’s 100 percent sure the Bobby Burns cocktail was named after Scotland’s celebrated poet Robert Burns. However, that doesn’t stop proud Scots from sipping this delightful cocktail on Bard Burns’ b-day (January 25th). But don’t feel you can’t enjoy this mix if you don’t have a drop of Scottish blood. Indeed, anyone who loves the Manhattan will dig this delicious drink.

For a little extra “poetic inspiration,” we’d recommend squirting our high-quality CBD into your Bobby Burns brew. Just a half-dropperful of our citrus-flavored CBD oil adds a sublime note to this lovely cocktail.

Pungent, Poetic, And A Pinch of CBD

Although the Bobby Burns has become a staple in Scottish culture, most evidence suggests it was invented in an NYC bar. Even more interesting, some respected historians believe it wasn’t named after the world-renowned Scottish poet.

Recent research suggests a tobacco shop named “Robert Burns Cigars” was near the NYC hotel where this cocktail was invented. Coincidence? We’ll let you be the judge of that.

Whatever the truth may be, there’s no denying Robert Burns is now the honorary inspiration for this cocktail. So, be sure to brush up on a few of Burns’ poems if you want to make a super impressive toast!

Pungent, Poetic, And A Pinch of CBD — Tribe’s CBD Bobby Burns

CBD Bobby Burns Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 oz Scotch whisky
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • ½ oz Bénédictine
  • ½ dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Lemon peel
Directions
  • Pour Scotch, sweet vermouth, Benedictine, and Tribe CBD oil into a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for about eight seconds
  • Strain into a pre-chilled rocks or coupe glass
  • Garnish with a lemon peel

As with many classic cocktails, different bars put their spin on the Bobby Burns. For instance, a few recipes call for a dash of bitters (either Angostura or Peychaud’s will do just fine). Also, there’s some dispute over whether to use Bénédictine or Drambuie in this drink.

While most people agree Bénédictine is the authentic choice, some bartenders feel it didn’t suit the drink’s flavor profile—especially when compared with Drambuie. Since Drambuie is made with Scotch whisky, it fits quite naturally in this recipe. Plus, Bénédictine is French, and, if you couldn’t already tell, this cocktail is a big deal in Scotland.

As in all of our other cocktail recipes, we’d recommend trying all of these different renditions to find the best Bobby Burns for your tastebuds. Oh yeah, and be sure to check out our Vieux Carre recipe if you need more info on the Bénédictine.

Soothe Your Stress (And Settle Your Scurvy!) With Tribe’s CBD Gimlet!

Forget vitamin C tablets; lime juice was the world’s first immune booster! Indeed, British sailors would often take a shot of lime juice to fend off vitamin C deficiency (aka scurvy). To help make this pungent fruit more palatable, one naval surgeon had the bright idea of combining it with gin—and thus, the gimlet was born!

Supposedly named after that brilliant naval surgeon, the gimlet remains incredibly popular in bars around the world. While people nowadays don’t drink the gimlet for its vitamin C content, it certainly has a soothing effect on “mental health.” Plus, with a dropperful of Tribe’s citrus-flavored CBD oil, you’re bound to feel super chill while sipping this refreshing drink.

Soothe Your Stress (And Settle Your Scurvy!)

When you start researching the history of the gimlet, you will inevitably run across Rose’s Lime Cordial. First invented in the 19th century, this highly successful UK product is basically a mix of lime peels, lime juice, and sugar. According to some stories, the original gimlet called for this ingredient, but most people nowadays swap out Rose’s for fresh lime juice and simple syrup.

If you are going to purchase a lime cordial at your liquor store, please carefully inspect your product’s ingredients list. Unfortunately, many cordial companies nowadays use unpronounceable chemical preservatives, artificial sweeteners, and food coloring. If possible, only buy a lime cordial with natural sweeteners like cane sugar rather than high-fructose corn syrup.

While it’s not essential to use lime cordial in a gimlet, it’s pretty easy to make at home. All you need is water, sugar, limes, and citric acid. Be sure to check out this YouTube tutorial to find out more about making this terrifically tart ingredient.

Soothe Your Stress (And Settle Your Scurvy!) With Tribe’s CBD Gimlet!

CBD Gimlet Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 oz gin
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • ½ oz simple syrup
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Lime or lemon wheel
Directions
  • Pour gin, lime juice, simple syrup, and Tribe CBD oil into a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into a pre-chilled martini glass
  • Garnish with a lime or lemon wheel

Although a traditional gimlet always calls for gin, it has become increasingly fashionable to use vodka as the primary spirit. There’s also a fascinating gimlet variation that substitutes gin for Pimm’s No. 1 liqueur. Adorably, this Pimm’s rendition is called the “Pimmlet!”

Of course, if you swapped out the gin for rum in this CBD cocktail, then you’d technically have a daiquiri on your hands. Add a few fresh mint leaves to your daiquiri, and you’re well on your way to making a mojito!

FYI: if you’re interested in learning more about Cuban cocktails with a CBD spin, please be sure to browse Tribe CBD’s blog. In addition to the CBD daiquiri and CBD mojito, we’ve published loads of articles on lesser-known treasures like the Airmail and the Old Cuban

A NY Classic For Cognac Connoisseurs — Tribe’s CBD Japanese Cocktail

The Japanese Cocktail is one of the most misleading names in the classic cocktail canon. Unlike what you’d expect, there are no Japanese flavors in this American mix. Supposedly, NY bartenders only named this cocktail in honor of a 19th-century Japanese diplomat who was in the Big Apple.

While you won’t find sake or Midori in this cocktail, it’s got a lot of fantastic flavors going on. Anyone who’s a fan of cognac should give this weirdly named wonder a taste. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to add a little spritz of our citrus-flavored CBD oil!

A NY Classic For Cognac Connoisseurs

Nowadays, most bartenders serve the Japanese Cocktail in a pre-chilled coupe glass. However, it’s more likely mixologists originally made this drink in an ice-filled highball glass. Not only that, some historians contend that there was no lime juice in the original recipe.

Instead of lime or lemon juice, an “authentic” 1860 Japanese Cocktail probably only had a lemon peel garnish. To better infuse all of those citrusy essential oils, mixologists would often stir their lemon peel in the drink before serving.

Whichever variation you try, we’d recommend going light on the orgeot and citrus juice. Take a few sample sips to find your ideal balance of tart and sweet.

A NY Classic For Cognac Connoisseurs — Tribe’s CBD Japanese Cocktail

CBD Japanese Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 oz cognac
  • 1/2 oz orgeat syrup
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • 1 dash of Angostura bitters
  • Lemon peel
Directions
  • Pour cognac, orgeat syrup, lime juice, and Angostura bitters in a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for about eight seconds
  • Strain into a pre-chilled coupe glass
  • Garnish with a lemon peel and Tribe CBD oil

Unless you’re familiar with Tiki drinks, you probably don’t know what the heck orgeat syrup is. In a “nutshell,” orgeat is an almond-infused simple syrup with a touch of orange flower water. While this ingredient features heavily in dozens of tropical drinks, it’s most famous for its role in the Mai Tai.

While most liquor stores should carry a few orgeat brands, you could easily substitute with a splash of amaretto. Although it’s not ideal, you could also use a pinch of almond milk if it’s all you’ve got on hand.

If you’d like to learn more about orgeat syrup, then you’ve got to check out our previous post on the CBD Mai Tai

Mellow Out with Some Magma — Enjoy Tribe’s CBD Lava Flow Cocktail

There’s a lot to love about living on Hawaii’s Big Island—but there’s also one major drawback: Kīlauea. Purportedly the home of a fiery goddess Pele, this massive volcano is still active and incredibly dangerous. Alas, even Polynesian paradise isn’t perfect!

While residents may never get “accustomed” to living near a volcano, locals seem to take a “que sera” attitude towards their predicament…hence the creation of the Lava Flow cocktail! As the name suggests, this fruity concoction is meant to resemble a volcanic eruption.

Whenever you need a mental escape to the Islands of Hawaii, be sure to grab your blender and try this delicious drink. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to add our citrus-flavored CBD oil to help calm your nerves.

Mellow Out with Some Magma

While you’re mixing your lava flow recipe, here’s an “ice breaker” (or “melter?”) you could share with your friends. Believe it or not, there’s a restaurant on the Spanish island of Lanzarote that cooks its food on a grill over a stream of magma. Predictably, this Michelin-starred restaurant is called “El Diablo!”

Although this volcano erupted in the 1800s, chefs don’t seem all that concerned it will do so again. All we could say is that El Diablo’s BBQ chicken had better be “to die for!”

Mellow Out with Some Magma — Enjoy Tribe’s CBD Lava Flow Cocktail

CBD Lava Flow Recipe

Ingredients
  • ~ 2 oz fresh strawberries
  • ~ 5 slices of fresh banana
  • 2 oz coconut cream
  • 1 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz coconut rum
  • 1 oz aged rum
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Pineapple wedge or fresh strawberry (garnish)
Directions
  • Add strawberries and aged rum to a blender and blitz until smooth
  • Pour strawberry mixture into the bottom of a pre-chilled highball glass
  • Blend coconut rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream, one cup of ice, and banana slices in the same blender
  • Slowly pour the coconut-banana mixture into your highball glass.
  • Top with Tribe CBD oil
  • Garnish with a strawberry or pineapple wedge, if desired

Although we often picture lava as blood-red, you may also notice tinges of orange and yellow as this scalding substance shoots out of a volcano. If you’d like to achieve these colors in your Lava Flow, there are a few substitutions you could use.

For instance, you could brighten your Lava Flow by subbing strawberries for a few frozen mangoes or pineapple chunks. It’s also not unheard of for people to use frozen orange juice or fresh baby carrots to give their Lava Flow some extra pop.

If you really want to make your Lava Flow taste like the real deal, why not throw in a spicy cut of ginger root or fresh turmeric? You could even add a pinch of cayenne pepper for a super sizzly Lava Flow!

Sail On The High Seas...Without The “High” — Give Tribe’s CBD Navy Grog A Try!

While the sun has set on the British Empire, we could pretend to be adventure-seeking sailors with a glass of Navy Grog. Supposedly invented to preserve water supplies, this rum-based cocktail became extra popular in the US during the Tiki craze. Anyone who’s dreamt of living on the high seas must give this high proof drink a taste.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget to add a bit of citrus-flavored Tribe CBD oil to make this drink extra ship-shape. Just a touch of our high-quality CBD oil will be enough to loosen up all you lily-livered landlubbers!

Sail On The High Seas...Without The “High”

It’s easy to get “information overload” while researching the ingredients in a proper Navy Grog. In reality, there are dozens of accepted renditions on this classic cocktail. However, the two recipes that stand out come from Sam the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s.

Although we don’t know which of these Cali bartenders invented the modern Navy Grog, Sam the Beachcomber’s version tends to be more popular—hence, we’re going to present his recipe below. However, if you want to experiment with Trader Vic’s rendition, all you have to do is swap honey syrup for pimento dram and add crushed ice.

FYI: If you don’t know how to make honey syrup at home, you’ve got to check out this guide on our CBD Brown Derby post.

Sail On The High Seas...Without The “High” — Give Tribe’s CBD Navy Grog A Try!

CBD Navy Grog Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz dark rum
  • 1 oz gold rum
  • 3/4 oz lime juice
  • 3/4 oz white grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz honey syrup
  • Club soda
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • 1 orange slice
  • 1 Maraschino cherry
Directions
  • Pour all ingredients except orange slice, cherry, and Club soda into a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into an ice-filled highball glass
  • Top with Club soda
  • Garnish with a cherry and orange slice, if desired

For those who want to drink a more “historic” Navy Grog, you’re going to have to change this recipe quite a bit. First off, instead of using three different rums, opt for about 1 ounce of Pusser’s Navy Rum. To this, add one ounce of curacao, ¾ oz of lime juice, a few dashes of Angostura bitters, 2 oz of water, and 2 oz of orange juice.

While this might not be precisely how British sailors “got their grog on,” it’s closer to the original version than those tantalizing Tiki recipes.

Don't Get "Groggy;" Get Tribe's CBD Energy Shots!

Nowadays, it’s more likely you’re a “surfer” than a sailor; and instead of the “high seas,” you’re probably glued to “hi-tech” platforms. While our digitized age is “Uber” convenient, it can also be quite draining. Whenever you need a pick-me-up, please think twice before chugging an artificial energy drink. Instead, reach for one of Tribe CBD’s all-natural Energy Shots. Made with easy-to-pronounce ingredients, our CBD shots have just the right amount of caffeine to get you through your workday.

Forget Boring Old Water — Stay Hydrated With Tribe’s CBD Cucumber Juice

Celery juice may be all the rage on social media, but let’s not forget about another glorious green drink: cucumber juice! Jam-packed with antioxidants, cucumbers are a fantastic addition to any salad, beauty routine, or beverage. Indeed, since cucumbers have such a high-water content, they can help you stave off dehydration.

If you’re someone who struggles to chug enough bottles of boring old water, then you’ve got to check out this easy-peasy cucumber juice recipe. Best of all, you don’t need a fancy juicer to make this hydration booster.

Oh yeah, we’re also going to add a touch of our citrus-flavored CBD oil to this refreshing drink. The extra pinch of orange extract in our high-quality CBD oil will add just the right amount of flavor to keep you craving more!

Stay Hydrated With Tribe’s CBD Cucumber Juice

Here’s a scary statistic: roughly 75 percent of Americans aren’t well-hydrated. Not only are we not getting enough water every day, many of us are drinking way too many dehydrating beverages like coffee, alcohol, and soda.

While all of these drinks are OK in moderation, chances are you could add a few hydrating fruits and veggies into your diet. Along with trying this cucumber juice recipe, here are a few easy suggestions to help you sneak some hydration into your workday:

  • Spice up your dull water bottle with grated ginger
  • Swap out spaghetti for ultra-hydrating zoodles
  • Add more fresh berries to your breakfast routine
  • See if your supermarket has fresh watermelon or 100 percent natural watermelon juice
Forget Boring Old Water — Stay Hydrated With Tribe’s CBD Cucumber Juice

CBD Cucumber Juice Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 medium-sized cucumber
  • 1 cup of purified water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 – 4 sprigs of mint
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
Directions
  • Cut the ends off your cucumber, peel the skin, and chop into chunks
  • Add cucumber, water, lemon juice, and a few mint sprigs to a blender
  • Blend until the mix reaches a smooth consistency
  • Pour the cucumber mix through a fine-mesh strainer and push the juice into a glass
  • Throw away the excess cucumber pulp
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil

We know this drink is supposed to be healthy…but that doesn’t mean you can’t add a touch of vodka for brunch! Indeed, there are plenty of delicious, flavored vodkas that would go great with this drink. We’d recommend trying a berry or citrus-infused vodka to give this drink an extra pop.

For those who’d like to keep this drink alcohol-free, consider throwing a few fresh berries, ginger, or coconut water into the mix. Plus, you could add a spritz of seltzer before serving to give this drink some fizz.

Add CBD Sleep Shot To Your Healthy Routine

Not only are Americans dehydrated, but they’re also sleep-deprived! Interestingly, new data suggests CBD might help naturally settle our nerves before bedtime. In fact, many people first get interested in CBD to help improve sleep quality.

If you’re one of the many people who wants a more restful sleep, we’d recommend trying Tribe’s CBD Sleep Shots. Made with a blend of CBD, melatonin, and soothing herbs, this berry-flavored blend will help you relax before bed.

Please find out more about our all-natural CBD Sleep Shots here.

Add Some Heat To Your Hops — Tribe’s CBD Michelada Recipe

Forget about a “spoonful of sugar;” the Michelada is all about spice! If you’re looking for a quick way to clear your sinuses, then you’ve got to give this mouth-melting Mexican drink a try. This beer cocktail has just the right amount of heat to keep you on your feet.

To help temper the Michelada’s fiery flavors, Tribe CBD added a pinch of our citrus-flavored CBD oil to this recipe. One dropperful of our high-quality CBD should be enough to calm your nerves while sipping this smoky drink.

Add Some Heat To Your Hops

While the Michelada is highly customizable, two non-negotiable ingredients are beer and hot sauce. However, there’s no standard brand associated with this drink. We’d encourage you to cycle through a few different products to find which flavors suit your fancy.

Arguably, the most popular Michelada combination in the US is Corona mixed with a few dashes of Tabasco. Both of these products are readily available at the supermarket, and they provide a satisfyingly spicy experience.

However, we’d recommend checking out all the craft brews and artisan-quality hot sauces available in your hometown. Also, even though the Michelada is often made with a light beer, some people say dark stouts work just fine.

Add Some Heat To Your Hops — Tribe’s CBD Michelada Recipe

CBD Michelada Recipe

Ingredients
  • 12 oz beer
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 2 dashes of your preferred hot sauce
  • 3 dashes low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Lime wedge
  • Tajin Seasoning/ Salt mixture (rim garnish)
Directions
  • Pour Tajin seasoning onto a plate, use your lime wedge to dampen the glass rim, then dip in the Tajin seasoning
  • Add ice to a pre-chilled highball glass, being mindful of the rim topper
  • Pour lime juice, hot sauce, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce into your glass
  • Stir until well-chilled
  • Slowly add beer to your glass
  • Top with a lime wedge and Tribe CBD oil

While you don’t need to salt your rim when making a Michelada, it’s not unheard of when preparing this drink. Indeed, some brave drinkers even coat their glasses with a pinch of cayenne pepper. However, if you’re going to down that much spice, we’d recommend eating a few slices of bread beforehand. Taking cayenne pepper on an empty stomach could cause severe stomach pains.

If you don’t feel like salting the rim of your glass, then consider stirring a little salt into your drink. You could even add a little paprika, pepper, or celery salt to give this drink extra complexity.

For more info on salting the rims of your glasses, please be sure to read our popular CBD Margarita post.

Get “Fired Up” With Tribe CBD’s Energy Shots

While spicy Micheladas will get your blood pumping, it’s not the best pre-workout drink. When you want to get motivated to hit the gym, it’s far wiser to down one of Tribe’s best-selling CBD Energy Shots. Each of these berry-flavored blends contains traces of our high-quality CBD alongside energizing guarana, ginseng, and all-natural caffeine.

Cognac With A Splash Of Citrus (And CBD!) — Try Tribe’s CBD Brandy Crusta

The Brandy Crusta isn’t the best-known classic cocktail, but it has one huge claim to fame. According to most reports, this 19th-century gem was the first to use fresh citrus juice. So, if you love a little lemon, you’ve got to try this old NOLA cocktail.

Since citrus is such a big deal in the Brandy Crusta, we just had to add a dropperful of our citrus-flavored CBD oil! The potent orange extract in Tribe’s CBD oil will add the perfect complement to this tart treasure.

Cognac With A Splash Of Citrus (And CBD!)

Besides the long lemon peel garnish, one of the defining features of a Brandy Crusta is its sugar rim. While it might be a pain to prep your glasses, guests will appreciate that extra pop of sweetness as they sip this drink. Plus, you could use this opportunity to sneak extra Tribe CBD oil into your cocktail!

Before you run your lemon wedge around your glass’s rim, add a few drops of our citrus-flavored CBD oil to the lemon pulp. This way, as you add your lemon juice to the glass’s rim, there will be a little extra CBD goodness in every gulp.

Cognac With A Splash Of Citrus (And CBD!) — Try Tribe’s CBD Brandy Crusta

CBD Brandy Crusta Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 oz Cognac
  • ½ oz Cointreau
  • 1/2 oz Maraschino Liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Lemon Juice
  • 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • Sugar (for rim)
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Long lemon peel
Directions
  • Place a dusting of sugar on a paper plate
  • Cut a lemon wedge and run it around a pre-chilled coupe glass
  • Turn your glass over on the plate to create a sugared rim
  • Add Cognac, Cointreau, Maraschino liqueur, Angostura bitters, and Tribe CBD oil to a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for about 10 seconds
  • Strain into your coupe glass
  • Garnish with a lemon peel

There’s no beating the taste of fresh-squeezed lemon juice. However, it can be annoying to juice this yellow fruit at parties. Understandably, many home bartenders ask whether they could prep this pungent juice ahead of time and pop it in the fridge.

Good news: fresh lemon juice typically lasts two days in the refrigerator. Even better, you could store your lemon juice in the freezer indefinitely. However, if you want the absolute best flavor, you should plan on using this frozen juice within at least two months.

A Lesser-Known Cuban Cocktail — Try Tribe CBD’s El Presidente

During the dry days of Prohibition, many Americans “wet their whistle” in heavenly Havana. One of the many cocktails bartenders invented during this time was called “El Presidente.” Although many people have forgotten this Cuban classic, it’s a lovely libation for rum connoisseurs who are looking for some extra fun.

Although we’re not sure how popular CBD is in Cuba, we’re confident our citrus-flavored CBD oil adds some “zang” to this classic cocktail. The all-natural orange extract in Tribe’s CBD oil helps bring out the flavors of curaçao in this delish drink.

A Lesser-Known Cuban Cocktail

Since El Presidente hails from Cuba, it makes sense that most recipes call for Cuban rum. However, if you’re not a cocktail connoisseur, you may be wondering if there’s a big difference between Caribbean rums? What sets Cuban rum apart from the competition?

Well, if you ask cocktail enthusiasts, Cuban rum brands tend to be the “lightest” in the Caribbean. This may have to do with the intensive boiling, aging, and purification procedures Cuban manufacturers must follow.

By contrast, Jamaican rum has a reputation for being “stinky”—in a good way! These funky flavors come from a unique fermentation process. So, if you’re looking for an exotic flavor explosion, Jamaican rum may be the way to go.

Lastly, let’s turn our attention to the tiny island of Barbados. Customers often claim the rums from this remarkable island have a sweet flavor profile that resembles caramel. Interestingly, Barbados rum brands often have a higher sugar content than spirits on other islands.

While you should stick with Cuban rum to make an “authentic El Presidente, don’t let that stop you from experimenting with the other rum varieties at your liquor store.

A Lesser-Known Cuban Cocktail — Try Tribe CBD’s El Presidente

CBD El Presidente Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 ½ oz aged rum
  • ¾ oz dry vermouth
  • ¼ oz orange curaçao
  • ½ teaspoon grenadine
  • ½ dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Orange peel
Directions
  • Pour rum, vermouth, curaçao, and grenadine in a stirring jar
  • Add ice and stir until it’s well chilled
  • Strain into a pre-chilled martini glass
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil and an orange peel

Whenever you open a bottle of vermouth, please remember to seal the lid and pop it in the fridge. Unfortunately, vermouth has a relatively short shelf life, especially if you leave it on the counter. To get the most use out of your product, you need to store it in the fridge immediately after opening it.

In most cases, vermouth will only last about one month. While this drink could still be “usable” for a few months, it will become increasingly “flat” with each passing week. Be sure to give your vermouth a good old smell test before pouring it into any future recipes.

FYI: There are loads of CBD cocktails on Tribe CBD’s blog where you could put that vermouth to good use. Be sure to review all of our most popular posts like the CBD Manhattan and CBD Martini.

Could CBD Get You Off Those Cuban Cigars? — New Science On CBD For Nicotine

It’s no secret that Cubans take great pride in the craft of cigar rolling. However, we now know nicotine can have harmful health effects over time. Thankfully, new research suggests CBD may help in the battle against nicotine addiction. One fascinating trial out of the University College London showed that CBD worked better than a placebo at reducing nicotine cravings.

While these findings are significant, please remember the FDA has yet to make any definitive statements on CBD. None of this info is meant to treat, diagnose, or cure any disease. If you’re interested in adding CBD oil to your treatment regimen, we’d recommend speaking with a certified doctor.

Bacon, Bitters, & A Little Booze— Taste Tribe’s Bacon Breakfast CBD Cocktail

Foodies have done a lot of genius things with bacon over the years, but adding bacon fat to a cocktail may be one of the most brilliant. After all, who wouldn’t love indulging in the savory flavors of a home-cooked breakfast before bed? Heck, almost 70 percent of Americans admit to eating breakfast for dinner anyway!

So, if you’re not all that into counting calories, be sure to give this bacon-infused cocktail a try. Oh yeah, and please don’t forget to add orange-infused Tribe CBD oil for a touch of that staple breakfast beverage: OJ!

Bacon, Bitters, & A Little Booze

The only annoying part about this recipe is that you have to infuse your bacon vodka the night before drinking it. Thankfully, if you have a few slabs of bacon (and a heaping pile of patience), it’s not all that difficult to make this infusion. Here’s a quick and easy way to make bacon-infused vodka:

  • Cook a few pieces of bacon in a pan until they’re nice and crispy
  • Take the bacon off the pan and eat it!
  • Transfer all that bacon fat into a Pyrex measuring cup
  • Take out a glass mason jar and your bottle of vodka
  • Once the bacon fat has cooled, add one tablespoon per 375 ml of vodka in the mason jar
  • Shut the mason jar’s lid, shake, and let the mix sit for six hours
  • Once the six hours are up, put your mason jar in the freezer for about 30 minutes
  • Place a coffee filter and a strainer over another glass jar and pour your vodka mixture
  • Store your vodka in a mason jar or the original bottle

While most people use vodka to make this fun infusion, that doesn’t mean you can’t give bourbon a try. Be sure to try this recipe with both spirits and tell us which one you prefer!

Bacon, Bitters, & A Little Booze— Taste Tribe’s Bacon Breakfast CBD Cocktail

Bacon Breakfast Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 oz bacon-infused vodka
  • ½ oz maple syrup
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • Orange wedge
  • Crisp bacon slice
Directions
  • Pour bacon-infused vodka, maple syrup, orange bitters, and Tribe CBD oil in a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass
  • Garnish with an orange wedge or a crisp slice of bacon

As strange as this cocktail may sound, there are plenty of weird ways people use bacon nowadays. For instance, did you know bacon-infused brownies are now a thing? How about bacon-topped cupcakes? Bacon jam? Chocolate-covered bacon? You get the point: we’re all obsessed with bacon!

Actually, there’s another famous cocktail that often calls for a bacon garnish. If you’re familiar with classic drinks, then you might’ve already guessed which cocktail we’re referring to: the Bloody Mary! If you’d like to learn more about this iconic cocktail, we’d encourage you to visit Tribe CBD’s Bloody Mary blog post

A Heavenly Drink...From The Depths Of Hell! — Tribe CBD’s Satan’s Whiskers

Are you looking for a “fiery” cocktail that’ll wow your friends? If so, you’ve got to check out our take on the “sinfully sweet” Satan’s Whiskers. Created in Los Angeles during Prohibition, this orange-tinged drink is perfect for those who want to add some sizzle to their martini hour.

Since the Satan’s Whiskers has a pronounced orange flavor, we just had to add a dropperful of our citrus-flavored CBD oil! Made with a blend of hemp extract, stevia, and orange oil, our CBD tincture will add some sweetness to this fabulous cocktail.

A Heavenly Drink...From The Depths Of "Hell"

An interesting thing about Satan’s Whiskers is that you could prepare it two ways: “straight” or “curled.” The only difference between these drinks is which orange liqueur you use. If you pick Grand Marnier, then you’re going to enjoy the “straight” version. Those who choose orange curaçao, however, will get the “curled” experience.

We know what you’re thinking: “Is there a big difference between these drinks?” Well, that all depends on how refined your palate is. The best advice we could give is to try each of these renditions and see which one you prefer!

A Heavenly Drink...From The Depths Of Hell! — Tribe CBD’s Satan’s Whiskers

CBD Satan’s Whiskers Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 oz gin
  • 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 oz dry vermouth
  • 1/4 oz Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 dropperful Tribe CBD oil
  • Orange peel
Directions
  • Pour all ingredients except the orange peel and Tribe CBD oil into a cocktail shaker
  • Add ice and shake for a few seconds
  • Strain into a pre-chilled martini glass
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil and an orange peel

Even though Satan’s Whiskers has been around for decades, there aren’t a ton of variations. Indeed, most recipes only differ in how much of each ingredient you put into this cocktail.

For instance, many bartenders opt to put just ½ oz of gin for a less boozy experience. Alternatively, you could add one ounce of gin and keep all of the other ingredients at ½ oz (except for the orange bitters and Tribe CBD oil, of course).

You might also see some bartenders add more or less bitters depending on whether they use curaçao or Grand Marnier. Indeed, it’s more likely the “straight” cocktail will contain just one to two dabs of bitters, while the “curled” version could have as much as four or five dashes.

As always, we recommend trying different ingredient levels based on your preferences. Once you’ve found your perfect proportions, be sure to write them down so you’ll never forget!

A Not So Sweet Standard — Try Tribe’s CBD Gin Rickey

If you’re traveling to DC during the summer, then be prepared to sweat…a lot. With its steamy, swamp-like temps, the nation’s capital has a reputation for tiring out even the most enthusiastic tourists.

Luckily for us, we can take much-needed breaks thanks to central air conditioning. However, in the not-too-distant past, people had to find other ways to cool down. Hence the creation of one of Washington’s coolest cocktails: the Gin Rickey!

With just a few simple ingredients and zero added sweeteners, the Gin Rickey is an ideal drink to sip on a sunny day. For an extra touch of tart, we’re going to add a bit of our citrus-flavored CBD oil to the mix. Who knows, maybe the extra “chill” from CBD will help get rid of all that excess sweat!

A Not So Sweet Standard

Although the Gin Rickey has become an undisputed standard, it’s not the “original” drink that Col. Joe Rickey ordered in the 19th century. Indeed, we know for a fact that Mr. Rickey preferred bourbon rather than gin.

Interestingly, as this drink became trendier across the nation, more patrons asked their bartenders to swap out bourbon for gin. Apparently, the majority of patrons liked how gin’s botanicals played off of the lime juice. Hence, the version that has gained mainstream attention is the Gin Rickey.

If you’re a stickler for authenticity, you might want to grab a bottle of bourbon rather than gin when preparing this CBD cocktail. Be sure to let us know which version you prefer on Tribe CBD’s many social media pages!

CBD Gin Rickey Recipe

CBD Gin Rickey Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 ½ oz gin
  • ½ oz lime juice
  • ~ 2 oz Club soda
  • ½ dropperful Tribe CBD oil (citrus)
  • Lime wheel
Directions
  • Fill a highball or rocks glass with ice
  • Pour gin and lime juice
  • Add enough Club soda to top your glass
  • Garnish with Tribe CBD oil and a lime wheel

You could easily burn out your brain exploring all the “Rickey recipes” that are now online. Whatever spirit you enjoy, we’re pretty sure somebody on earth has tried it in a Rickey variation. While most people appreciate how gin naturally compliments fresh lime juice, don’t let that stop you from trying other spirits like vodka or rum.

Also, just because the Gin Rickey is well-known for excluding sugar, that doesn’t mean you can’t add a dab of simple syrup. In fact, many people nowadays like to mix simple syrup, Club soda, and lime juice to make an “alcohol-free Rickey.” While you’re at it, add some fresh fruit like cherries or blackberries to make this summertime drink sizzle!

Speaking of Sweet, Have You Tried Tribe’s CBD Gummies!

Unlike many other CBD companies, Tribe CBD is proud to manufacture edibles with zero artificial ingredients or sweeteners. But that doesn’t mean these berry-flavored treats aren’t bursting with flavor! Rather than high-fructose corn syrup, all of our gummies have delicious agave syrup and all-natural fruit juice to satisfy your sweet tooth without excess sugar.

Pucker Up for Tribe’s CBD Lemon Drop Cocktail

The Lemon Drop may be the 20th century’s most popular (and pungent!) cocktail. Although this delightful drink was hot during the 70s, it saw a massive resurgence in the 2000s thanks to the one and only Oprah Winfrey! Indeed, chances are you were one of the many fan who first mixed this tart treasure after Oprah shared it with everyone’s fave TV chef: Rachel Ray.

Whether you’ve had a gazillion Lemon Drops or this is your first time, we think you’re going to like our CBD-enhanced variation. Since our citrus-flavored CBD oil has a touch of orange extract, it provides a perfect accent to this beloved beverage.

Pucker Up

We know: it can be a bit annoying to salt or sugar your cocktail glasses, especially if you have to serve dozens of friends. However, you can’t honestly say you’re drinking a Lemon Drop if you don’t add a little sugar. Thankfully, there is a “bartender’s hack” that could help you sugar your rim without too much of a fuss.

First, be sure to rub a lemon wedge around your chilled martini glass. Next, open a standard sugar packet on one end and split the side where it’s sealed. Now all you have to do is run the exposed end around your cocktail’s rim for a perfectly coated glass.

After you’ve tried an authentic Lemon Drop, it’s time to spice up this drink with a few alterations. There are plenty of ways people add a unique spin to this cocktail, but here are a few of our favorite suggestions:

  • Muddle fresh strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries to give this drink some fruity flavors.
  • Consider using a citrus-infused vodka for extra tang.
  • Add a touch of raspberry liqueur for a dazzling red color.
  • Swap out simple syrup for the spicier ginger syrup.
